Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their first Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.

Trailing three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the sole team never to appear in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their work this season.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
