Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
