The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the London-born former Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I possess a special position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they were, but of course it's a really big sports organization."

The coach agreed to a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh forward is inclined to finish the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, due to a successful European competition performance, even if they fail to finish as their group second place.

Considering his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
