Person of Interest in Brown University Shooting Located Deceased Inside Storage Facility.
The suspect linked to the weekend's fatal violence at Brown University reportedly committed suicide on Thursday night, as stated by law enforcement.
His body was discovered at a storage location on Thursday evening, according to information from an enforcement source. The same individual is also believed of the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor at a residence in the Boston area.
“He took his own life this evening,” said the chief of the Providence police department during a news briefing.
The chief identified the deceased man as Claudio Nevis Valenti, a 48-year-old student at Brown University.
This news follows a major law enforcement presence at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire earlier on Thursday. Journalists on scene reported seeing numerous agents in tactical gear converging on the premises.
The manhunt for the shooter had resumed on Monday after the attorney general's office revealed that a individual detained on Sunday had been let go. This turn of events was acknowledged to be deeply concerning for the local community.
Local officials emphasized that while the release was a setback, the overall case was not paused unabated.
The two students who were killed in the shooting have been identified. They are Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama who was served as vice-president for a campus political group, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an international student in his first year who aspired to a neurosurgeon.
Officials are scheduled to hold a news briefing to provide further details on the suspect's death.
