The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
